Justin Turner is back with the champs. The free-agent third baseman announced Saturday night via Twitter that he will remain a Dodger.
MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal said the deal, which has not been confirmed by the club, is for two years, $34 million with a club option for a third season. It also includes an $8 million signing bonus.
“Lettts gooo run it back @Dodgers fans!” was his Twitter message, along with a photo of him in front of the words “LA He’s Here to Stay.”
Turner had reportedly received at least two multi-year offers and was said to be looking for a four-year contract. The 36-year-old slugger became a star after being non-tendered by the Mets and joining the Dodgers in 2014 — in seven seasons with Los Angeles, he has hit .302/.382/.503 with 116 home runs and helped the Dodgers win their first World Series title since 1988 last year.
Turner has been one of the game’s best postseason performers in recent years. In 72 career postseason games, he’s slashed .295/.392/.507 with 12 homers and was named the MVP of the 2017 National League Championship Series against the Cubs.
The Dodgers signed reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer to a three-year, $102 million contract earlier this month, but it soon became clear that they weren’t out of the running for Turner, who reportedly also received a multi-year offer from the Brewers. The Mets, Braves and Blue Jays had also been linked to him this offseason.
With the re-signing of Turner, the defending World Series champions will return their entire starting lineup intact, and with the addition of Bauer, have fortified a starting rotation already featuring Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler and Julio Urías.
