Below, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year talks about the possibility of playing for the Knicks and Nets and about his pre-draft process:
SNY: With all of the uncertainty surrounding the draft over the last few months, how are you feeling now that it is finally coming up this week?
RAMSEY: I’m feeling good. While this is definitely a different layout from how I imagined to be drafted, I am grateful to be here and have this opportunity.
SNY: What have you worked on since the season ended?
RAMSEY: I work on different aspects of my game with each workout, but I have really been working on improving my speed and of course my shooting percentage.
SNY: What is something that fans or teams who haven’t seen you since your last game at Texas Tech wouldn’t recognize about your game if they saw you play today?
RAMSEY: I have definitely become stronger in the paint over the last couple of months.
SNY: How do you think playing at Texas Tech prepared you for the NBA?
RAMSEY: Without a doubt, Texas Tech has a great program and I have learned a lot from my teammates and of course the coaching staff.
SNY: What do you think about the possibility of playing for Tom Thibodeau and the Knicks?
RAMSEY: Playing in The Garden would be an honor. I think every player dreams about that, but I’ll be happy wherever I land honestly.
SNY: What do you think about the possibility of playing for Steve Nash and the Nets?
Steve Nash is a legend and the Nets would be a great home for me as well. Obviously they have a talented team, and it would be great to have the opportunity to learn from the vets. But like I said, at the end of the day I’m just happy to be given the opportunity to play in the NBA, wherever it may be.
SNY: Have you spoken to Knicks or Nets?
RAMSEY: “I spoke with them and really enjoyed learning more about the organization(s) and being able to tell them a little about myself. I’m a Texas guy through and through, so living in New York would be something different for me for sure. “
SNY: What do you think you can bring immediately to the team that drafts you?
RAMSEY: I’m bringing energy to any team that would like to have me. This is my time and I’m excited to show the team, the city and the world what I can do on a professional level.
SNY: What do you think about having to play in preseason so soon after the draft and starting the season roughly a month after draft night?
RAMSEY: Honestly, I feel prepared for it. I’ve been working and training for this and I’m excited to get out there and prove myself.
