According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Padres have agreed to a deal with free-agent right-hander Keone Kela. The financials of Kela’s deal are not yet known.
Kela appeared in just three games for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the pandemic-shortened campaign after missing time due to injury and being placed on the COVID-19 list. He had a 4.50 ERA, 2.000 WHIP and three strikeouts in two innings.
The 27-year-old is 21-11 in his six-year career with a 3.24 ERA, 1.122 WHIP and 266 strikeouts in 216.2 innings. He has also played for the Texas Rangers.
San Diego has added Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Ha-Seong Kim and Victor Caratini this winter and re-signed Jurickson Profar, among other moves.
