Ohtani, Angels Agree On 2-yr., $8.5M Deal (www.mlb.com)

Shohei Ohtani and the Angels avoided an arbitration hearing on Monday, coming to an agreement on a two-year deal worth $8.5 million.

The two-way star had 175 plate appearances as the designated hitter for the Angels in 2020, slashing .190/.291/.366. He made only two appearances on the mound in his return from Tommy John surgery, lasting just 1 2/3 innings and allowing seven earned runs, while walking eight batters. He was shut down for the rest of the season with a right forearm strain but plans to return to the mound in 2021.
