Just one week after hitting on three of five Upset Alert games and nearly doing even better, last week was a bit of a let down here. Just one of the five games picked for upsets came through — Miami over Virginia Tech — though there were a couple near misses.
We talked about the importance of SMU getting off to a better start against Tulsa. The Mustangs did that, building a 24-7 halftime lead before it all fell apart in a 28-24 loss. In other game, the upset pick itself didn’t hit, though the team did cover and make the game close.
Still, even with last week’s rough slate of games to pick from (when you’re complaining about the picks you have to make before the game has even started, it’s going to be tough), that’s less than ideal. With better games to pick from this week and more upset candidates, this should see a bit of a rebound.
The once-weekly disclaimer: These are not straight-up games where we’re picking an upset to occur. Rather, they are games that look interesting and have the potential to generate an upset if a condition or two are met.
