The clubs have not confirmed the deal, which was first reported by The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler.
Ottavino, a 10-year MLB veteran, has a 3.53 career ERA but scuffled last season, posting a 5.89 mark in 18 1/3 innings with New York. It will be something of a homecoming for the Brooklyn native, who attended Northeastern University before being drafted by the Cardinals 30th overall in 2006.
The last trade between the two clubs came at the 2014 Trade Deadline, when New York sent Kelly Johnson to Boston in exchange for Stephen Drew. Before that, the rivals hadn’t made a trade since 1997.
